Business Casual

I only have a week and half left in my current job before I am booted out. Why I care to continue to try and dress appropriate is beyond me but purposely dressing frumpy is just not my thing—although accidentally its been known to happen--particularly if it was succeeding a late night.

Sunday Soundtrack

Sunday fun day, that means cleaning out the garage and getting rid of a bunch of stuff. I am trying to downsize, in order to successfully complete this I have put together a playlist to aid in the momentum of such a monumental task.

1. In the sun-she & him (happy go lucky, if only it were sunny instead of overcast)

2. Never had nobody like you - M. Ward (feat. Zooey Deschanel) --a little bit rougher than she&him but still just as catchy.

3. Can you tell? - Ra Ra Riot (hint of vampire weekend but less cocky and jamaican)

4. October - Broken Bells (not fully sure how I feel about this collaboration just yet leader singer of the shins, James Mercer, with Danger Mouse

5. Audience - Cold War kids ( i have been waiting for this EP forever, needless to say I am a big fan)

6. Blood - The Middle East (clocking in at 5 minutes and 27 seconds this is the perfect warm-down song, melodic without being too melancholy)

p.s. not my garage. photo from here.

The looming doom of unemployment does funny things to people. I, for example, spend my time scowering etsy and polyvore mentally composing outfits I would wear had I the money rather than searching craigslist and careerbuilder for a job to actually make those outfits a reality.

Find me on Polyvore

Whatever, this is way more fun.

What better way to spend a sunny day?

Then listening to the sneak peek of Volume 2 by She & Him! find the link here to NPR where you can listen to the whole album! (it comes out march 23rd by the way).

Can I just say that I love Zooey's hair, I've decided that when I next go for a hair cut --i'm hoping late april--I want that style. I disastrously tried to cut my own bangs over the weekend, thus why I must wait until April to get cut by a professional. Otherwise I would be spotting the 'sweet pea' look--which I am just not cool enough to pull off.

So I did not get the full-time position, which means I have approximately two weeks left of my current position before I am kicked to the curb.

However I am extremely okay with it, the reason for my total que sera, sera attitude is because I have been engaged for the past two months and there is no better distraction than having to plan a wedding.

This weekend I tried a little DIY project--stamping my RSVP cards (vintage postcards collected from Ebay)....however the only stamp I could find where individual little letters. It takes forever!!! and it may not be perfect but I like the overall outcome.

I dont know the Reply Date yet... so that's why there is a blank spot

The best little discovery was when I received my vintage postcards some of them were used. Originally I was just going to put a sticker over it but after reading them all I couldn't bare it! Some are postmarked as far back as the 1930s! I am trying to think of a way to incorporate them into the wedding decor.

I found one that is our exact wedding date only its year 1965!

You cant really see it but it is post marked 1936!

What the hell??

Generally, if I went to an interview and had not heard back from them in two weeks I would think 'Well, I didnt get that job' Well thats vaguely the situation I am in now. But they havent fired me either.

I feel like they are just pushing me around cuz they know I am desperate. I will work extra hours and not complain because I need to keep my job. But this just makes me bitter and therefore I sometimes think I dont want it. Either way I just want them to make a DECISION!

Oh weekend, you are so close and yet so far. Please send me good karma.

Why cant I live a life of frivolity and contentment?

Let the countdown begin

I have a job interview on Tuesday, for the job I already have. I am super nervous because I don't really like the lady that is heading up the panel. And because I heard through the grapevine that She was not very impressed with any of the candidates at the testing--which can be taken two ways.
1. I did not have to do the testing because I took it only a few months ago, therefore I could be one of the better looking candidates.
2. I am included when she says 'candidates' and therefore I already have something against me.

I promise this will be a lot less gloomy after tuesday. but then again it might be even gloomier, in which case, I will change subjects altogether and talk only of kittens and candy.

but in good news, yesterday somebody bought donuts for the office and today is Friday!

The most akward of conversations

I have an old acquaintance who I went to high school with and recently spoke to. Here is how the conversation went:

Acquaintance: Hey do you still work at ---? I am going in for a job testing tomorrow!
Me: Yes, I do. What posting!
Acquaintance: Office assistant or something, hey if you still work there you should put in a good word for me!
Me: Actually, that's my job. So I dont think it would do me much good to refer you.

In case the conversation was not as clear, the acquaintance was applying for the job I am fighting to try and keep! Damn. Back to craigslist to look at more underpaid overworked jobs.

This sucks.

the art of tastefully eating all of the food in the break room

well, my office currently does not have a break room, rather a corner that contains a mini refrigerator, microwave, and small cabinet. however, today there was a meeting and we have accumulated a large platter of cookies, muffins, fruits and granola bars. i, not having brought a lunch, thought what an opportune moment to save a few dollars and eat food that would only go to waste otherwise.

the down fall is that after the first time i walk by the corner, grab a cup of lukewarm coffee and a snack, it is more difficult to continually sneak over and grab something, especially since the corner is in plain view of three other offices. Not that they care, but maybe they do, and I do not need the reputation of being a mooch since sometime next week I will be having to explain myself in front of a panel as i fight for the job i currently already have.

It's a duel

There's a new bad word that came out of 2008/2009 economic rut: restructuring.

The word makes peons like me shudder. Well my company is restructuring, and the outcome of this restructure is that I am in a duel. I and another girl in my office (plus 150 unknown applicants) are fighting for one position. Its an odd position to be in to wish ill-will on someone that you dont really hate. But this is a duel, and if i dont shoot first I'm the one at a loss.

Thus the walk away from each other begins as we race for simple projects, I've loaded the copier, set up the fax, and I am ready.
